Tips and Tricks From The Experts

How to Budget For Internet Marketing Tools Services and Products

Several years ago my father went into the retail shoe business by purchasing an existing shop from a man that had lost a ton of money gambling.  He really lucky to know one of the best CPA’s in the region.  While he was setting up the company and accounts for his new venture, this genius of accounting sat my father down and shared a secret with him.

“John” he said, “there is a very specific formula to ensure the success of any business, large of small and I want to share it with you now…”

My Dad was thrilled!  Here was a man that had been involved in all sorts of businesses for his entire career, and he was about to share information with him that CEOs paid him big bucks for as a consultant!  So he sat down, and pulled his chair up to the CPAs desk and got ready to take notes.  This amazing businessman waited until my Dad was set, and was paying rapt attention to the word’s of wisdom that he was about to impart.  Then he said:

“John for any business to succeed  THE INNIES MUST EXCEED THE OUTIES…”

And then he leaned back in his chair done with what he had to say.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, you could bankrupt Halliburton buying all of the bells and whistles and chimes and foghorns available under the innocent little heading of Internet Marketing Tools.  First last and always Internet Marketing is a business.  In order to succeed in this business you have to make more cash than you spend.  Yes:  THE INNIES MUST EXCEED THE OUTIES!

There are enough educational programs out there selling in the neighborhood of two grand that you could spend more than your average salary just on those!  A lot of the information found in these high priced courses can be found for free in forums and in online communities.  Am I saying the information in these  isn’t worth the price you pay?  No, but I am saying that it may not be a good idea to pay for these out of pocket until your online business is able to foot the bill.

Yep, what we are talking about here is budgeting the cash flow of your online business.  You need to have a monthly budget written down that spells out exactly how much you pay for each of the expenses your online business has.

Mine has three sections.  One of them for the expenses related to my websites themselves.  The second one is for the Internet Marketing Tools and Advertising costs to promote those sites.  And the last section is for educational expenses to expand my knowledge base and skillset.

Each item in the first two sections are fairly easy to justify financially.  Some are fixed costs that you can’t avoid, and others will either prove their worth monetarily or will fail to do so and can therefore be eliminated.   It is frequently the last category that gets people in this business in trouble.

It is an excellent idea and just good business sense to invest in continuing education for whatever business you are in, and Internet Marketing is no different.  What the most successful people in Internet Marketing do is to make this particular area of their budget limited to a specific percentage of their profits.

Please note that I specified profits, and not total receipts.  This is an important distinction.  If you don’t know what your profit margins are, you need to learn this information and keep close track of it.  Why?!

Why, to ensure that THE INNIES EXCEED THE OUTIES!!

Budgeting your Internet Marketing business expenses on a monthly basis is the only way to make sure that it succeeds.

Signature Line: An Overlooked, Virtually Free Marketing Tool

Once my clients truly understand that marketing is about relationships, we start talking about how those relationships are created and maintained to determine appropriate marketing tactics for their businesses and personal styles.  But no matter what kind of business my clients are in, they all have the same excellent relationship marketing tool at their fingertips: Their e-mail messages.

E-mail messages are the most frequently overlooked (and virtually free) marketing tools available to entrepreneurs.  No, I’m not talking about electronic mail campaigns, or spamming, but using the messages you send out every day to your clients and colleagues as a subtle marketing tool.  You can do this by adding more information to your signature line in all your e-mail.

How many times have you received a message from people who aren’t using a company domain name in their e-mail address, so you’re not sure who Bill or Sally @Hotmail.com is?  Or what if you’re in that position yourself? Many low cost Web hosts will forward e-mail received to you@yourdomain.com, but don’t provide an e-mail address from your domain name.  So how do you look professional when you’re dealing with a $35 a month Web site and free Internet e-mail?  You use an annotated signature line.

Most e-mail programs allow users to create an individual signature line that is appended to all outgoing messages.  If you’re not using one, you are missing an effective and virtually free way to market your business.  And as an added bonus, your marketing message can be seen where paid advertising is forbidden such as on electronic bulletin boards, giving you a competitive edge is such circumstances.

So why bother to annotate your signature line?  Here are some good reasons:

1. Annotating your signature line makes it easy for your clients to find your contact information when they want t o buy again.  Sure you may have given them a business card, but what if business cards are lost or misfiled?  Creating a situation in which your client has to look in the Yellow Pages for your phone number may be risky, especially if a competitor has a more compelling marketing message.

2. Annotating your signature line reminds and makes it easy for your clients to visit your web site.  Of course that’s assuming you want your customers to visit your Web site.  And why wouldn’t you?  Your Web site is a great visibility tool that builds your relationship with your customers.

3. Annotating your signature line identifies the origin of your messages so that if they get forwarded, people who are interested in what you have to say or offer can find you easily.  Evan if you know for sure that your customers have your address, your fax number or understand the full range of your products or services, that information does not forward with your e-mail unless you put it there.  So if one of your loyal customers forwards an e-mail from you to a colleague and your contact information is not included, you’ve just closed the door to a new business opportunity that your customer opened for you by forwarding your message.

4. Annotating your signature line can be a gentle way to remind customers of upcoming events (”Sale end Friday, Dec 27th” or “Don’t miss our open house on Jan 17″) to buy again (”Call today for a free quote”), to promote a new product or service (”Ask me how our new widget will save you money”), to encourage forwarding and referrals (”Forward this newsletter to anyone you thing will find it valuable”) or to call for feedback (”If you like working with us, tell your friends.  If you don’t, tell us and we’ll make it right”).

So what should you include in an annotated signature line?  At the very least, your e-mail signature should include you full name, title, company name, web site link, plus you phone and fax numbers.  Also consider a direct access phone line (if different than the company phone number), cell phone number, company tag line or motto, an offer, a reminder to buy, last call for a special deal, teaser for the future products or services, or even an inspirational quote, if it reinforces your marketing message.

It doesn’t have to be fancy to get read.  You can make simple borders around your key messages or information by using your title key (~), a dash (-), and underline (_) or even a series of asterisks (*).  Bottom line: Every professional needs a standard signature line in all business correspondence.  Because that is exactly what e-mail is professional correspondence.  Of course, we use it so casually and so frequently that it hardly seems like something professional at all.  But bear in mind that all correspondence between you and your customers is an opportunity to enhance you business relationship, even if that communication happens only in cyberspace.

Social Bookmarking: Another New Internet Marketing Tool

Web 2.0, the ability of the user to contribute content and share information with other users, is adding new methods and strategies to effective internet marketing. Effective internet marketing in this environment is dependent upon having the users get excited about your product or content and want to share it with others. The fastest way this is done is something called social bookmarking.
You know how to add a site to your favorites list, right? You see a site that you like or that you plan to return to so you add it to your favorites list. There is one big drawback to this “old” system of listing your favorite sites. Your favorites list is locked onto your computer. There is no easy way to share your favorites list with your friends and associates.
What if, when you found a site you wanted to add to your favorites, instead of adding them to your favorites on your computer, you could add them to a list of your favorites that is on the internet. Then you could find your favorites no matter what computer you were using and you could direct your friends to your favorites list by sharing the web address with them.
This is in essence what social bookmarking is. Social bookmarking is creating a personalized list of your favorites on an internet site built specifically for this purpose. The site is constructed so that everyone who visits can see your favorites list and can visit the sites that you think are important.
Visitors to your social bookmark list not only can visit your favorite sites, they can add the sites that they like to their own social bookmark list. Then others can view their list and so on and so forth. A really interesting site could start to spread virally on these social bookmarking sites. That would be a tremendous benefit to anyone’s web traffic.
Another function of social bookmarking sites is to keep track of how many times a site is listed on someone’s favorites list. This number is used to rank the sites popularity. Of course the highest ranking sites are featured by the social bookmarking sites and of course that brings even more traffic to those sites.
How do you start getting listed on these social bookmarking sites? First you have to be listed at least once, so logically you set up your own list and put your sites on it. Some sites have buttons you can add to your site to allow readers the option of listing it on their social bookmark list. There are plugins for some blogs that can do this. Obviously the better and more useful your content the more likely your site is going to end up on readers lists.
The object is to get your site listed on as many social bookmark sites and lists as you can. A few popular sites are: del.ico-us, backflip, netvouz, Digg and stumbleupon.
Getting involved in social bookmarking is good internet marketing, taking advantage of the interactivity of Web 2.0. Social bookmarking is one more tool to use to boost your sites popularity and increase traffic.

Internet Marketing Tools – Creating the Perfect Sale

We have all heard the expression “The Perfect Storm” and it refers to the situation where all weather elements come together at the same time to produce a perfect storm. But is there an equivalent of the perfect storm in the marketing world? A situation where all elements come together to produce “The Perfect Sale?”
For the moment, we will conveniently ignore the current world economic meltdown and look only at positive situations where this event may occur. Perhaps, the closest thing we have to the Perfect Sale is the online product launch. But unlike the natural phenomenon, this event is carefully planned and orchestrated by a whole army of web savvy marketers who know exactly what has to be done to create this Perfect Sale.
For this “sale” doesn’t just happen, professional web marketers create their own system of events that lead up to this Perfect Sale, earning themselves enormous profits in the process. This is an orchestrated marketing effort that bring potential buyers onto their contact lists and into their marketing funnels; heading straight towards their Perfect Sale.
These online marketers use a whole array of marketing tactics to bring potential buyers to their sales page. One of the most effective methods is the JV or joint venture with other established marketers who have long lists of interested buyers, and for a percentage of the sales, the JV partner promotes your sales page or product. There are even JV brokers, Mike Merz and Kenneth McArthur come readily to mind, but there are many more JV brokers who can arrange or line up potential partners to help promote your product.
A certain date is set for the release of your product and all potential partners/affiliates promote to their lists and on their sites. A buying frenzy can be whipped up especially if the product is limited and only a certain number of sales will be accepted. Also a high quality free sampling or teaser is usually given away to build up massive contact lists of interested buyers, this freebie is used to pre-sell to these buyers. There may even be a countdown clock to further create excitement and urgency in the mind of the buyer.
On launch day, everything is synchronized. JV partners mail out to their massive contact lists, enticing all their subscribers with extra bonuses to buy the product now before it’s gone. The sales letter page goes live and the sales pour in… creating “The Perfect Sale.”
For the non-marketing reader, this may seem a bit far-fetched but in actual fact these product launches are occurring online every week – creating the “Perfect Sale” over and over again. And these launches have been around for many years, one of the most famous being John Reese’s “Traffic Secrets” which was released in the summer of 2004 and earned over 1 million in revenue in one day.
There are even some savvy marketers who have perfected the product launch system into an art form, mainly Jeff Walker (Product Launch Formula) and Frank Kern (Mass Control) just to mention a few of the top marketers out there teaching and applying this marketing technique.Key Elements Of A Product Launch
However, just like the Perfect Storm, in order to create this Perfect Sale many factors have to fall into place and come together. Some of these main elements are:1. A high quality product which is in demand and desired by the potential buyers. It must solve a problem or meet a need within its niche market. Bit obvious but without this demand the product won’t sell in any great numbers, no matter what tactics you use.2. A perfectly written sales letter that converts. Your sales page must convert into actual sales of your product. Again, quite obvious but if your sales page does not convert, it’s game over.3. A whole motivated group of JV partners with enormous lists and bonuses to offer to potential buyers. Many product launches now offer special prizes (anywhere from a luxury sports car to the latest tech gadget) for those partners who can bring in the most sales.4. A whole array of orchestrated, pre-launch tactics building up interest in your product with free high quality giveaways to get your buyer’s attention and contact information. Even a newly created blog to keep everyone informed about your product launch is often used.5. Most of the above tactics have to do with creating the potential buyer with the right mind-set for buying your product. Creating a limited number of products or setting a certain time-frame for selling, and offering special deals or bonuses will further create demand for your product.Product Launch Day – The Perfect Sale
Product launch day is when all the above factors come into play creating the “Perfect Sale”. Done properly such a sale can whip up such a buying frenzy that would put any great white to shame; earning all involved a healthy profit. It is one marketing tactic that’s not likely to disappear any time soon, although the novelty of such an event is slowly wearing thin as countless marketers try to re-invent the wheel.
Regardless, as an online marketing tool, the product launch is still one of the most effective ways to quickly introduce your product, build your list and cement your reputation. Not to mention, you can also earn a hefty sum of money in a very short period of time; the “Perfect Sale” indeed.

Ad Blasters are An Essential Internet Marketing Tool

Ad Blasters are programs that allow you to submit your text or HTML advertisement to multiple advertisers at once, saving you valuable time. There are many different types of blasters available, some free, many at a small cost. Some are web-based and others are software programs that you can download and install on your computer.

Email Safelists, Free-For-All (FFA) link directories, Classified Ad sites, Blog blasters and RSS feed blasters are all examples of different services that you can use to send your advertisement or web site URL to multiple advertisements at once, increasing your exposure to potential web users dramatically.

A Safelist is an opt-in list whose members can send their ad via email to other members. You must use a valid email address for the list, but you’ll want to use one that is different than your primary address. Most Safelists will ask you for your contact email address that will only be used by the list manager for member communication, and a list email address to which you will receive the messages from other members. While it’s true that many people won’t read your ad email, if you join enough safelists and start reaching tens of millions of people a day with your ads, the numbers will begin to work in your favor and you will start seeing results.

FFA, or free-for-all sites are web pages that accept links to other websites at a high rate. Often the links are shown on a page that has 50 or 100 “rolling” links. As new links are posted, the oldest ones fall off. But other FFA sites retain your link for much longer or indefinitely. The value of FFA sites is debated in the marketing community but I personally think it is worthwhile, if only to get lots of sites linking back to your web site. In addition, there are FFA blaster tools that let you effortlessly blast your site link out to thousands of FAA in an instant. So why not do it?

Classified Ad sites are just that, the digital sister to traditional newspaper classified ads. There are a ton of free classified ad sites on the web that will accept your ad, as well as many that charge for their services. A typical model is the site will offer a free ad and after you post it, will entice you with paid upgrade for your ad to increase its effectiveness.

Blog and RSS feed blasters are services that will accept your blog URL or RSS feed URL (and most blogs provide you with a feed) to the site. The service then sends this out to multiple blog or RSS web directories that index your entries and help to get exposure for your site.

Submitting your ads and URL’s to all of these advertising outlets manually, one at a time, is possible but you would be spending the majority of your time doing this instead of building your business. Finding good blasters is an essential part of a smart Internet Marketer’s tool bag.

Who Make Blogging the New Internet Marketing Tool?

Blogging is used to be as a way to comment an existing webpage, and chance for visitors and readers to react or voice out one’s opinion on the said page. What started as a single-sentence explanation has evolved into pages of personal take on just about anything and everything under the sun. As it continues to move forward, online advertising has tapped into the blog’s potential. Here are 5 reasons why you should use blogging as an Internet marketing tool.

1. Blogging is simple. The simplest way to get your piece on the net is through blogging. No skills are essential: an average adult can read and type, or at least click a mouse. It’s like having a virtual piece of paper and you just write your ideas, experiences, new products, and hope that the truth behind your articles comes out and entice your reader to also try your product. If you have a PC and an Internet connection then you can blog and advertise.

2. Blogging is authentic. In this day and age where advertising saturate our lives, we question the reliability of promoter’s claims. However, in blogs, real people share their real-life experiences, unmarked by paid advertising. Reading blogs about first-hand product use is like talking to people about their first-hand experience. You certainly want to buy a tried and tested product.

3. Blogging is free. Because blogging is yet to be proven as a mainstream online advertising media, most sites see it as something to supplement current marketing tools and thus offer it for free. You can also go to www.building-blog-empire.com. Any chance for free webtime is definitely a bonus especially to businesses that are starting up. Needless to say, paid blog pages can generate more income for your seriously growing business.

4. Blogging builds credibility. As you get more and more into writing your experiences on a particular product or industry, your readers come to realize that they can depend on your posts for their own information needs. As such, you become an expert on it; as a result, more readers visit your site and more bloggers link to your blogs. As companies and professional organizations notice the growth of your readership base, they may soon get in touch with you for advertising on your blog page, or make you an affiliate, which pays for every referral generated from your blog site.

5. Blogging builds your market. Unless you are a Hollywood star, chances are, only your relatives read your posts. Mom has a lot of friends, so she lets her friends know how interesting your blog site is. But you need not depend on relatives to increase your readership base. Look into the following ways to build your market through blogging:

-By using your e-mail. Today, blogging is overcoming the e-mail’s popularity in quickly and effectively reaching and expanding a market. In this age of speed and quick access, logging in and downloading e-mail is simply taking longer than clicking into a blog site. Let them explore your site by using a short e-mail message as teaser to your blog site. If your e-mail is on an entirely different subject, use your e-mail signature to give a link to the site.

-By using subscription. An easy way to get your readers e-mail is to give them an opportunity to subscribe to your blogsite. Keep some exclusive information for your subscribers to entice readers to subscribe and give their e-mail address. Just be accountable in using their e-mail address, as the last thing you want is a comment on your blog that you are a spammer.

-By understanding your readers. Carry out a simple survey for your readers to understand their profile and advertising preferences. Ask consumers to give you feedback on a post, an ad link, or a trial that you shared. In this way, it is like interviewing your readers without the dedication and imposition of a face-to-face interview.

-By joining a blog network. A network of blogs maybe a collection of blog sites that share the same industry, interest, readership base, payment mode, etc. Consumers find credibility and convenience in clicking one link to many real bloggers about a single subject. Clearly, more bloggers are best than one.

-By using RSS. RSS is the fastest growing technology on the Internet today. As such, having RSS feeds to your blog is definitely another means of generating awareness for your readership base. Having a variety of feeds can add interest to your blog site.
